Water Ionizer Features [What to look for]

It can be tricky to choose a water ionizer as there are so many brands and only a number of these companies make high-quality ionizers. Today, we’ll be looking at some of the key features you should look for in a water ionizer. After you’re done reading this, you’ll be able to make a more informed decision about which machine you should buy.

Water Ionizer Features [What to look for]

Water Ionizer Plates

When it comes to water ionizers, the first thing you should look for is the number of plates a particular ionizer machine uses.

The number of plates in water ionizers varies from model to model and brand to brand. A greater number of plates means the ionizer will produce better quality alkaline water with more molecular hydrogen (which is the most important part of the water). A higher plate count also means that more alkaline water can be produced in a given time.

Water ionizers that use 9 plates are considered to be okay, but it’s better to have more and that’s the reason some of the top-quality water ionizers units use 11 or 13 plates. For instance, the Tyent ACE-13 is considered by many websites, celebrities and experts to be the best ionizer in the market, and one of the reasons for that is the fact that this particular Tyent model has 13 plates.

Moving on, another important thing to consider is the type of plates. When you’re choosing your unit, make sure that your water ionizer uses Solid/Mesh Hybrid plates. These plates use a combination of solid/mesh plates technology and provide both durability and performance. Avoid ionizers that use simple solid or mesh plates. Instead, choose one that uses a combination of both technologies.

Water Ionizer Filters

If you’re planning on buying an ionizer make sure it uses a proper filtration system. With water ionizers, one should always go for ionizer units that use ultrafiltration to purify water.

Ultra Filtration (from Dialipure filters specifically) has the same technology used in kidney dialysis machines. Ultrafiltration not just removes harmful microbes, it also removes a lot of other harmful chemicals and suspended solids. Ultrafiltration membranes use a 0.01-micron filter so before finalizing your ionizer choice, do make sure that it uses 0.01-micron filters.

Good quality water ionizers use a dual filtration system which is a combination of a 0.01-micron filter(ultra-filtration) and a ceramic filter. The added ceramic filter ensures that all heavy metals and any other contaminants are also removed from the water.

Water Ionizer Power Supply

The amount of power a water ionizer determines how high the pH of the alkaline water would be. If your ionizer doesn’t have enough power you won’t be getting the highest quality of alkaline water.

Also, if you plan on buying a water ionizer that also produces acidic water, it’s important that you choose a model with sufficient power because ionizers that don’t have enough power rely on chemicals to produce acidic water which is not a good thing. Water ionizers that produce high pH alkaline water as well as acidic water use more modern and powerful supplies.

Older water ionizer models that aren’t able to make high pH alkaline water use a linear power supply. Most ionizer companies have phased out this technology but some companies still use it. Avoid any ionizer that uses a linear supply.

A better choice would be ionizers that use SMPS(Switched Mode Power Supplies). This type of power supply is much better than linear power and doesn’t generate much heat as compared to the linear units.

If you want to drink the best quality alkaline water, you should go for a water ionizer that uses SMPS Plus, which is a modified version of the older SMPS technology and also the most modern power supply system available in water ionizers. It doesn’t generate any heat and is much cooler than a traditional SMPS supply.

Making a decision when it comes to purchasing a water ionizer can be tricky but luckily what you’ve learned here today will help you make an easier decision.

Do you already have your eyes set on a particular ionizer unit? If so, what’s the ionizer model and brand’s name? Leave your answers in the comment section below. We’d be glad to help you out and let you know if you’re making the right choice.
